A CEO, Chief Justice, Police Commissioner and Prime Minister walk into a room…and leave with a shared commitment to reshape the Caribbean’s future. The inaugural Connected Caribbean Summit took place from December 5-6, 2023, in Miami and brought together multidisciplinary leaders from the public, private, justice and development sectors to explore practical and scalable solutions for shared challenges experienced across the region.
Walking the Talk
After three days of knowledge sharing, insightful discussions, and meaningful commitments, participants left the Connected Caribbean Summit with practical, actionable strategies to make the Caribbean more connected and resilient. This action-oriented Summit provides participants with specific ‘next steps’ and ‘implementation goals’ to apply within their respective fields. Each year, attendees return to report on the progress and impact of these initiatives, creating a cycle of continuous improvement. Notably, past discussions led to the creation of the APEX Academy and AI efficiency tools, now actively enhancing our regional judicial system.
APEX Academy is an education institution that is seeking to fill a knowledge gap within the region through the provision of high-quality education and practical training through a wide range of workshops, courses, and research opportunities. The Academy offers a mix of content that covers the Business, Technology, Public Administration and Justice sectors, which aligns with our broader commitment to fostering Caribbean resilience through skill building.
And to expedite justice across the region, the Caribbean Agency for Justice Solutions partnered with Advent AI to develop AI tools JUDI and AIDA. JUDI was developed to automate the creation of court documents, and AIDA, to facilitate legal research. These tools are already proving their value in helping to reduce the strain on judicial resources and improve the overall efficiency and accessibility of justice systems.
These are just some of the outcomes of the 2023 Connected Caribbean Summit and as we prepare for our 2024 Summit, we are looking forward to building more strategic alliances to help solve regional challenges.
