CCJ President Commends CAJS for Leading in the Development of AI and Other Technology Solutions for the Justice Sector  

Calls for Greater Support for Digital Transformation Efforts in Caribbean Courts 

Miami, FL, December 6, 2023 — Technology solutions tailored to the needs of the region are vital to efforts to modernize and improve the delivery of justice in the Caribbean. This was the view expressed by The Hon. Justice Mr. Adrian Saunders, President of the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ), speaking at the recently concluded Connected Caribbean Summit.  

In his address, Justice Saunders emphasized the transformative impact of AI and other technology solutions on enhancing court excellence. He acknowledged the pivotal role that Caribbean Agency for Justice Solutions (CAJS) plays in advancing justice sector modernization in the Caribbean. He lauded CAJS for its forward-thinking initiatives, which include the integration of technology to streamline court processes, improve case management, and ensure greater access to legal services.  

He also highlighted the agency’s efforts in spearheading the development of artificial intelligence (AI) tools and other technology solutions tailored for the unique challenges faced by the region’s courts. 

“CAJS has emerged as a leader in the development of technology solutions that are transforming the landscape of the justice sector. The agency’s dedication to innovation and its collaborative approach are commendable and have set a high standard for the region,” remarked Justice Saunders. 

The CAJS was established by the CCJ in 2016 with a mandate to support and accelerate digital transformation in the justice sector through technology innovation, knowledge sharing and human resource capacity building. CCJ President highlighted the agency’s initiatives that foster greater regional and international cooperation, enabling judiciaries to learn from each other’s experiences and collectively advance the delivery of justice. 

“CAJS’s emphasis on collaboration and knowledge sharing is key to overcoming shared challenges and collectively advancing our justice systems. The agency’s work in this regard has been instrumental in fostering a sense of unity among Caribbean judiciaries,” Justice Saunders stated. 

Justice Saunders concluded his address with a call for continued momentum in leveraging technology to enable court excellence. He urged stakeholders to support initiatives like those pioneered by CAJS, emphasizing the importance of staying at the forefront of technological advancements to ensure the delivery of justice aligns with contemporary needs.
