Caribbean Network Operators Group (CaribNOG) and Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU) Sign MOU to Strengthen Regional Digital Resilience and Network Security 


 

Claire Craig, Research Director of the Caribbean Network Operators Group (CaribNOG), and Rodney Taylor, Secretary General of the Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU), formalized the longstanding partnership between their organizations with the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on Wednesday 6th December 2023, at the Hilton Blue Lagoon in Miami, Florida,  

The ceremony took place at the conclusion of the Connected Caribbean Summit, focuses on promoting collaborative approaches to digital development in the region. The alliance between the two regional entities encompasses joint initiatives for public awareness and leadership education, marking a significant step towards securing and fortifying the Caribbean’s digital landscape.  

This strategic collaboration between CaribNOG and CTU is grounded in the spirit of collaboration and action-oriented solutions championed at the Summit.  

Claire Craig, Research Director of CaribNOG, emphasized the importance of this collaboration in bolstering the region’s ability to navigate the dynamic digital environment.  

“The focus of the MOU is to propel the region towards enhanced digital resilience, fortification of network security best practices, and the augmentation of technical capacities, she stated, adding “CaribNOG is proud to partner with CTU in promoting the necessary skills and practices to secure our networks and ensure a robust digital future for the Caribbean.”  

Recognizing the need for a digitally skilled workforce, the collaboration will also focus on technical capacity building, to harness the opportunities and address the challenges posed by evolving technologies. Additionally, the MOU outlines joint public awareness campaigns and leadership education initiatives to foster a culture of cybersecurity and responsible digital leadership within the Caribbean. 

Rodney Taylor, Secretary General of the CTU, emphasized the timeliness of this collaboration. “This MOU reflects our commitment to building a secure and resilient digital future for the Caribbean. By joining forces with CaribNOG, we aim to pool our expertise, resources, and networks to empower the region in navigating the complex and rapidly evolving digital landscape.” 

The signing ceremony took place against the backdrop of the Connected Caribbean Summit, where stakeholders underscored the need for collaborative efforts to address the challenges and opportunities in the digital era. The MOU between CaribNOG and CTU positions itself as a key catalyst in realizing the vision of a digitally secure and resilient Caribbean.
