ARIN Committed to Supporting Internet Resilience and Capacity Building
Miami, FL, 6 December 2023 — In an address, underscoring the importance of careful adaptation to the evolving legal landscape, Michael Abejuela, General Counsel at the American Registry for Internet Numbers (ARIN), emphasized the critical need for the Caribbean to seize opportunities and embrace innovation in modernizing the justice sector.
Abejuela, a respected legal expert, delivering the feature address at the Justice Forum of the Connected Caribbean Summit held from 5 – 6 December 2023, in Miami, Florida. He described the transformative trends, challenges, opportunities, and actionable strategies for delivering effective, affordable, accessible, and equitable justice services in the digital age. He also explored the profound impact of digital transformation on justice systems.
“Emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), are reshaping the legal landscape. Legal practitioners must develop clear strategies for surviving disruption and navigating change,” stated Abejuela
“There is little question now that modern technology, can play a transformative role in improving the efficiency, accessibility, and overall quality of justice services. Legal practitioners and judicial officers who leverage these opportunities, can pave the way for a more responsive and efficient legal infrastructure,” he added.
Abejuela also spoke to ARIN’s commitment to supporting technological advancement in the Caribbean, particularly Internet resilience and security.
“ARIN plays a vital role in shaping the Internet’s infrastructure, and its commitment to technological progress extends to supporting initiatives that enhance justice systems in the Caribbean. We believe an open, stable and secure Internet has a positive impact on justice systems and justice delivery,” he shared.
Abejuela assured the conference attendees of that ARIN’s commitment to advocating for technology innovation and good Interterm governance.
“Our initiatives to facilitate inter-agency collaboration between law enforcement and public safety agencies, as well as our work to support judicial and legal capacity building, align with the overarching theme of the Connected Caribbean Summit – fostering collaboration, empowering communities and embracing technology for the advancement of the region.”
